About the opportunity

As a maintenance fitter, you will be responsible for ensuring the mechanical upkeep of our production lines. Your role will involve conducting preventative maintenance, diagnosing faults, and performing corrective actions to minimise downtime and support continuous production.

Note that this position operates on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.

Based at our Darnum site in the heart of Victoria’s dairy country, West Gippsland, you’ll be joining one of Australia’s largest and most advanced dairy manufacturing facilities. Our Darnum site produces world-class nutritional, skim, and whole milk powders for global markets. With recent upgrades in technology, safety, and production capacity, it’s an exciting time to become part of a team that values innovation, collaboration, and career development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preventative maintenance: Performing scheduled inspections, servicing and planned maintenance tasks to prevent breakdowns and ensure machinery operates efficiently and safely.
  • Breakdown response: Responding quickly to equipment failure and operational issues to minimise production downtime.
  • Quality and safety: adhering to stringent food safety, hygiene and health and safety policies and procedures to ensure product quality and a safe working environment.
  • Collaboration working closely with production operators and other team members to address mechanical and maintenance needs share knowledge and problem solve.
  • Record keeping accurately recording all maintenance activities and update system to maintain equipment history and facilitate reporting including shift handover.
  • Food safety Focus: Applying hygienic engineering principles GMP and ensuring all maintenance interventions align with food safety standards.
  • Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults, replacing components, fabricating parts as needed.

To Be considered for this position, you will have

  • Maintenance Trade Qualification and a Certificate III in Engineering
  • Experience in industrial or manufacturing environments, with food or beverage industry experience is highly regarded.
  • Experience with Mex systems is a bonus.
  • Ability to identify mechanical issues and work to proactively resolve
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with multi-disciplinary departments
  • Pneumatic systems knowledge
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise
  • Strong ability to work in a team environment
