Position Description

Imagine Tomorrow with Us | Ata whakaarohia tō āpōpō

At Fonterra, we want everyone to feel they can be themselves.

Whether you're early in your career or ready for your next step, Fonterra offers a unique opportunity to grow with a global dairy co-operative that values care, collaboration, and contribution.

Owned by New Zealand dairy farmers and supported by a dedicated team, we are all working together to create a better future. Imagine tomorrow with us, where your career can grow, and you can create positive change.

About us | He kupu mō mātou

We love kiwi dairy farmers and think they’re pretty awesome. For generations they have relied on hard work, ingenuity, and each other, to create the kind of goodness that fuels our families, connects our communities and supports our economy.

At Farm Source, our team is driven by the same co-operative spirit that our farmers and their communities share. We make farming easier so farmers can continue to concentrate on what they do best - producing high quality New Zealand milk in the most sustainable way.

This means growing and supporting the right people - people with plenty of roll-your-sleeves up energy to rise to the challenge. Whether you’re on the farm getting your gumboots dirty or connecting over a coffee at our local stores, you’ll be getting the mahi done as part of a trusted team - backed by good people, the right products, innovative solutions, and industry-leading expertise.

So why not join us? Our regional structure and openness to flexible working means that there really is something for everyone. No matter your age or stage, our inclusive culture has created a place where everyone can thrive.

About the Opportunity | Mō tēnei tūranga

Passionate about sustainability and looking to make a meaningful impact?

If you're someone who enjoys combining technical expertise with practical outcomes, and you're excited by the opportunity to help shape how Fonterra measures, manages and reports its on-farm greenhouse gas footprint, this role could be your next step.

We're after someone who can navigate complex data, science and carbon accounting requirements while keeping sight of the bigger picture. Someone who can build strong relationships across a wide range of stakeholders, translate technical concepts into practical insights, and help drive continuous improvement in how we measure and reduce emissions.

This is a role with real autonomy, influence and purpose. You'll lead a critical programme that support the Co-op's sustainability ambitions, regulatory obligations and emissions targets, while working at the intersection of science, farming, data and strategy.

You'll have the flexibility to work in a way that suits your lifestyle and the opportunity to shape the future of greenhouse gas reporting for one of New Zealand's largest organisations.

What you'll be doing
  • Leading Fonterra's farm-level greenhouse gas accounting programme and ensuring robust, credible and fit-for-purpose emissions reporting.
  • Evolving the greenhouse gas accounting model to reflect changing farming practices, emerging science, international best practice and accounting standards.
  • Overseeing the annual creation of greenhouse gas footprints for every supplying farm using dairy records and farm data.
  • Improving greenhouse gas accounting, systems, data quality, automation and reporting capability.
  • Supporting the reporting of emissions information to farmers in a clear, accurate and meaningful way.
  • Providing emissions reporting, analysis and insights to enable business decision-making, customer requirements and external reporting obligations.
  • Building strong relationships with internal and farm-facing teams, while collaborating with external science partners, industry groups and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Building capability and understanding across internal teams and helping farmers understand what their emissions footprint means and how it can be influenced.
  • Supporting annual audit, assurance and verification processes to ensure the integrity and credibility of our reporting.
  • Providing oversight and strategic direction for programmes relating to carbon removals, peat emissions and land use change.
  • Leading and developing a small team of specialists and creating an environment where people can do their best work.
About You | Mōu

You'll enjoy working with complex information and systems but won't lose sight of why the work matters. You're equally comfortable diving into the detail of emissions methodologies as you are helping leaders, teams or farmers understand what the numbers mean and how they can be used to drive better outcomes.

Ideally you'll have:
  • Experience leading complex programmes, projects or technical workstreams involving multiple stakeholders.
  • A strong understanding of greenhouse gas accounting, sustainability reporting, environmental science, agricultural systems or a related field.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, quality and continuous improvement.
  • The ability to think strategically and see the bigger picture while remaining comfortable working in the detail.
  • Strong leadership capability and experience developing high-performing teams.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience working with external partners, vendors, auditors or assurance providers.
  • Excellent communication skills and a knack for making the complex simple, and the ability to translate technical concepts into practical and meaningful insights.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent practical experience.
  • Most importantly, you'll be curious, collaborative and motivated by helping shape the future of sustainable dairy farming through credible, trusted and impactful greenhouse gas reporting.
