Fonterra Oceania is our newly formed entity that merges the Fonterra Brands New Zealand (FBNZ) and Fonterra Australia operations, aimed at enhancing our competitive position in the trans-Tasman dairy market. The integration of Fonterra Brands New Zealand (FBNZ) and Fonterra Australia builds on similarities to outperform the competition, create scale and synergies, and will strengthen our competitive edge. This role will join a team that helps to build an even stronger trans-Tasman dairy business with reach across Oceania and beyond.

We have three FBNZ operated sites in Takanini, Eltham and Palmerston North, and two central distribution centres in Auckland and Christchurch, with the largest chilled foods network across New Zealand. Our Takanini Site has three manufacturing plants - Beverages, Food and UHT, produces around 240,00 MT of product and has an annual Opex spend of approximately 100 Million.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About the Opportunity
We currently have an opening for a NZ trade qualified Mechanical Trade – Fitter/Turner or equivalent to NZQA L4 Maintenance and Diagnostics to join our Shared Services team based at our Takaanini manufacturing site.

As part of the Night Shift Maintenance Team operating in a 24/7 environment, you will be involved in the repair and maintenance of the Beverages, Cultured Foods and UHT filling plants and including (but not limited to) the associated processing and shared services for the site.

As part of our ongoing continuous improvement strategy, you will be in a key position to not only keep our assets running continuously and at peak performance but also work closely with our Equipment owners, building capability and sharing your knowledge and experience.  

Your forward thinking, drive and ability to achieve results will benefit you here too, as you’ll have plenty of scope to drive continuous improvement on equipment and process reliability with some of the industry's leading-edge technology. 

Your Key Responsibilities include: 

  • Mechanical maintenance on high-speed machinery and complex operating systems
  • Completing preventative and predictive maintenance and supporting breakdowns
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner to support operational excellence
  • Installation and maintenance of mechanical control equipment, pumps, motors, conveyors, manufacturing and filling equipment etc
  • Issuance and receiving permits to work 
  • Finding solutions to problems and not just identifying them
  • Supporting the IWS processes and systems including coaching and mentoring
  • Ensuring that the site CMMS (MEX) is kept up to date with a high degree of accuracy including ordering and the reordering of spare parts
  • The role is a night shift position - 4 nights on, 4 nights off, working a 12-hour rostered shift pattern 18:00pm to 06:00am.  

Mōu | About You
Your ability to flex between BAU, breakdowns, and project work, as well as your problem-solving mindset and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, will be highly valued. Proven experience within an FMCG environment is highly desirable but we are open to different industry backgrounds. You will have a minimum of a Mechanical Trade Certified Qualification or the equivalent to NZQA L4 Maintenance and Diagnostics or above and have a sound mechanical understanding and Electrical / PLC knowledge. You would ideally be a natural at coping with change, you’ll be capable of reacting to unplanned breakdowns and troubleshooting issues as they occur.

Furthermore, you will have:

  • Sound understanding of Reliability Centred Maintenance
  • Familiarity with high-speed manufacturing machinery with PLC controls
  • Sound understanding and working knowledge of electrical applications
  • Strong initiative, drive and ability to achieve results through engaging others 
  • The ability to continually seek opportunities to initiate and drive process improvements 
  • An acute awareness of safe health & safety practices 
  • Sound problem solving and troubleshooting techniques
  • A sound working knowledge of machine safety and guarding to AS/NZ 4024
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good computer literacy including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Keen eye for detail and accuracy 
  • Working knowledge of robotics and automated packaging systems
