Position Description

Our Co-operative

Ata whakaarohia tō āpōpō | Imagine Tomorrow with Us
At Te Mātāpuna Fonterra, we want everyone to feel they can be themselves.

Whether you're early in your career or ready for your next step, Fonterra offers a unique opportunity to grow with a global dairy co-operative that values care, collaboration, and contribution.

Owned by New Zealand dairy farmers and supported by a dedicated team, we are all working together to create a better future. Imagine tomorrow with us, where your career can grow, and you can create positive change.

He kupu mō mātou | About us
Established in 1967, our Te Rapa site is one of Fonterra’s largest manufacturing sites and produces whole and skim milk, instant whole milk powders along with cream, butter, pure dairy milk fat, cream cheese, and frozen cream products. At 41 hectares, the site makes enough product to fill 48.5 shipping containers every day!

Mō tēnei tūranga | About the Opportunity
As a Fleet Services Technician at our Te Rapa site, you’ll be responsible for automotive electrical diagnostics as well as mechanical servicing and repairs on our modern milk tanker/trailer fleet. You’ll be key to ensuring our vehicles meet Fonterra's high standards as well as all legal, health and safety requirements.

You will have the opportunity to work in a well-equipped workshop with OEM tooling and diagnostics. We know the best equipment needs the best people looking after it - practical and efficient problem solvers.

As an experienced diesel mechanic, you’ll be confident identifying faults both with breakdowns on the road and during day-to-day workshop repairs. Your proactive approach will also see you driving continuous improvement initiatives across the workshop to improve tanker reliability.

This role typically operates on a roster of 2 days and then 2 evening shifts, with 4 days off with 12-hour shifts (typically 5am-5pm & 10am-10pm). With a strong learning and development culture, this is an exceptional opportunity to join NZ’s largest Co-operative to expand your knowledge and skills.

Mōu | About You
We are looking for a dedicated individual with a strong work ethic, highly developed problem-solving skills, and a positive attitude. To make an impact in this role you will have:
  • Solid heavy vehicle/diesel mechanic experience, ideally on Scania and/or Volvo trucks.
  • A NZQA heavy vehicle trade certificate (Level 4) – this is essential as well as a clean Class 5 NZ driver’s license (or Class 4 if you’re working towards gaining a Class 5).
  • Strong electrical diagnostic skills and focus on asset care - driving towards world class fleet reliability.
  • Self-motivated, great communication skills and ability to work well with others.
  • Good computer skills across a range of platforms.
