Fonterra’s Energy & Climate team are accountable for the development of Fonterra’s energy strategy which ensures that the Co-op has a secure, economic and sustainable energy supply both now and into the future. Key initiatives within our energy strategy include improving energy efficiency and cost reduction activities, achieving our 2030 emission reduction target and transitioning from coal by 2037, exploring new technology and business model options, as well as energy regulatory advocacy.
The team work collaboratively across numerous other teams within Fonterra – as well as with the energy market and a range of stakeholders – to both inform and to give effect to our energy strategy. We remain technology and fuel agnostic, challenging our assumptions and seeing what is possible to deliver the best outcome for Fonterra.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About the opportunity
- As our new Energy Engineer, your main responsibilities will include
- Provide strategic leadership and support across your aligned region for Energy.
- Provide strategic leadership for the North Island focus of our Energy Efficiency program and support the implementation of key activities.
- Develop and support capital projects that will reduce energy use across your region.
- Analysis and recommendation of energy transition plans for your region and the development of our national energy strategy.
- Assessment and recommendations regarding new technologies, energy sources, and business models at a regional and national level.
Ko wai koe | About You
You will be a seasoned professional with at least 5 years’ experience in the energy and/or manufacturing sector. Your skill set includes:
- Deep energy and process engineering knowledge and experience, including in HAZOP and design reviews to support delivery of capital projects.
- Proven ability to solve complex problems, identification of risks, navigating uncertainties, and drive towards solutions, with a positive mindset on what can be done or what needs to happen to make it possible.
- Commercial acumen with experience in total cost of ownership modelling, as well as energy market sector knowledge and business case development.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills
- Ability to influence and implement change, as well as prioritise numerous competing demands.
